Dr. Daljit Singh, former Counsellor (Science & Technology), Embassy of India, Washington DC, USA, is a distinguished Chemical Engineer who has made extensive and significant contributions in education, research and development, industrial consultancy, international diplomacy and S&T administration and policy formulation, in India and USA.
Dr. Singh holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from one of America’s leading universities – the University of California, Berkeley, USA, and was nominated to the Honor Society of Sigma-Xi, USA – for excellence in PhD research work. This was preceded by B Tech from Panjab University, where he secured the first position in the university, with ‘Distinction’, and set up a new record of maximum marks obtained. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Panjab University Gold Medal for first position in University, Fulbright Award (USA), UNESCO-UNDP Fellowship, Earl C Anthony Fellowship (USA), Commendation Medal and Certificate of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers for excellence in research, and several other awards and honours, in India and abroad. He has also been honoured as a ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ by the Panjab University Alumni Association. He has been honoured by several US universities and professional bodies for promoting US-India collaborations in science & technology. The American Institute of Chemists conferred an Honorary Fellowship on him for promoting S&T collaborations, and for promoting the role of science & technology in diplomacy. He is/has been a member of the CII-NR Committee on Startups and Entrepreneurship, Punjab Technical University Committee on Entrepreneurship, Senate of Thapar Institute, Academic Council of UPES, and numerous other committees/panels of regulatory agencies, government bodies, universities, professional societies etc.
Dr. Singh has over four decades of distinguished experience, and has served in many prestigious positions, in India and USA. His significant assignments include Counsellor (S&T) at the Embassy of India, Washington DC, USA; Chairman, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Punjab; Director General, Doaba Group of Colleges, Punjab; Chairperson, Department of Chemical Engineering & Technology, and Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Visiting faculty, Cornell University, Ithaca and University of California, Davis, USA.
